9-13 March 2015. CSH Surrey is marking this year’s National Apprenticeship Week (9th-13th March) through a commitment to offer apprenticeships to future and current employees.
Apprenticeship vacancies are being publicised via NHS Jobs, with the first one being an HR Apprentice position (deadline to apply 24th March 2015). CSH Surrey is also putting on seven awareness events between 10th and 23rd March so its own employees can find out more about the schemes on offer. These include healthcare qualifications provided through Guildford College as well as business-related qualifications provided through Guildford-based Weir Training.
CSH Surrey’s first apprentice who joined its HR Team in September 2014 says: “I applied for the apprenticeship as I felt the position was a great start to what could lead to a career in many different departments. For me, I felt that an apprenticeship was better than a college course as I am learning while being in a working environment. Doing an apprenticeship suits me because I have the routine of a full time job during the day and am able to do the work set by the training provider in the comfort of my own home but can bring my questions into work to ask colleagues for help and advice. An apprenticeship is for someone of any age, not just for 16-19 year olds, and it’s an enjoyable way of learning. It’s great to feel part of the team and have responsibilities while working and learning. The skills you gain can be passed from one job to another so it’s a starting point for the rest of your career.”
HR Director Paula Logan adds: “I’ve used traineeships successfully in other organisations and they provide a great opportunity for people of all ages to gain qualifications to further their career while also earning in a full time role. I am passionate about ‘growing our own’ and apprenticeships are an excellent way to do this.”
