Tuesday 15 September 2015. One year ago, the 1st Cuddington (Warspite) Sea Scouts applied to CSH Surrey's Community fund for £1000 to enable them to make their activities available to all young people who wish to access them regardless of financial means. This was in response to the unit becoming aware of the growing number of young people who cannot afford certain trips, such as going on summer camps or kayaking weekends.
One year on, Sam Scarrott and Caroline Williams from CSH Surrey's Community Fund panel went to meet with the Group Scout Leader, Richard Hunt, to see how the money had benefited the charity.
He spoke of the children who had been able to access and benefit from the various camps organised by the group and how they would not have been able to if it hadn't been for the grant. The charity has used around £700 to date.
