Friday 6 November 2015. Two of the three finalists in the Patient Champion category of the regional Leadership Recognition Awards for the whole of Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) are from CSH Surrey.
They are Physiotherapist Vicky Kershaw and Stroke Specialist Nurse Erika Frohlick (photos attached). The third finalist is from Kent and Medway NHS & Social Care Partnership Trust. The winner will be announced at the third annual KSS Leadership Recognition Summit and Awards day at Sandown Park Racecourse on Thursday 12 November.
Vicky (see first photo below) was nominated for her innovative approach in helping dementia patients engage with physiotherapy to bring about significant and lasting improvements to their quality of life. Erika (see second photo below) was nominated for creating pioneering ‘Life after stroke’ workshops to improve the care and service received by early supported discharge stroke patients. The workshops help stroke survivors (and their families/carers) to overcome isolation and have been recognised by South East Coast NHS Clinical Senate as an example of best practice stroke care.
The Patient Champion category looked for nominees who have ‘gone the extra mile to create a lasting legacy of having heard, listened to and then actively designed, developed and implemented services inspired by patients and service users’.
