Wednesday 2 November 2016. CSH Surrey welcomed the 'Virtual Dementia Tour' to Leatherhead Hospital on 2nd November as we continue to find new ways to help our clinicians and support teams better understand Dementia. We are the first provider of NHS services in Surrey to book the full experience in the virtual reality tour bus. The bus will return on Thursday 24th November.
The tour is billed as the ‘only scientifically proven method of giving people with a healthy brain an experience of what Dementia might be like’. It has been experienced by nearly one million people in 17 countries.
32 of our nurses, therapists and support staff went through the experience this week. Some of their feedback is below:
- “A really surreal experience. Very insightful. I found it very useful, although quite overwhelming.” Physio
- “Very eye-opening. Confusing and overwhelming. The experience will definitely impact how I interact with my patients with dementia.” Nurse
- “Now I know why people with dementia have certain behaviours. I feel I now have a better understanding of what it feels like to have dementia.” Speech and language therapist
- “A unique experience. It certainly gives an insight into living with dementia.” Nursing student
