By applying the NHS ‘Houdini’ framework, CSH Surrey’s infection prevention control (IPC) team and Woking community nurses have substantially decreased the number of patients using urinary catheters.
Such has been the success of this service improvement project, the Nursing Times has shortlisted it for ‘IPC project of the year’.
By embedding the Houdini framework into patient care, there have been significant reductions in the usage of urinary catheters and, consequently, the incidence of catheter-associated urinary tract and bloodstream infections.
