Steve Flanagan CEO

CSH Surrey, an NHS community services provider, today announces the retirement of its CEO, Steve Flanagan, who has led the organisation since 2018, when he was appointed to an executive role, having served on the board as a Non-Executive Director since 2012.

Under his leadership, CSH Surrey expanded its impact across the county, working closely with healthcare, local government and voluntary sector organisations to improve the health, wellbeing and happiness of their community.

Steve guided CSH Surrey's efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, during which the organisation administered more than 300,000 vaccines via the mass vaccination centres at Epsom Downs and Sandown Park, while continuing to provide essential healthcare to the people who needed it.

Subsequently, Steve played a significant role in advocating for social enterprises to receive the NHS Covid bonus, ensuring recognition for those providing NHS services during the lockdown.

Reflecting on his tenure, Steve said: “It’s been an honour to lead CSH Surrey through a period of both growth and challenge. I have been lucky to work with great people, who put the patient first and strive to do the very best for the communities we serve. There is something special about being an employee-owned social enterprise, delivering services on behalf of the NHS."

Chair of the Board, Andy Field paid tribute: “Steve's dedication, integrity, and warmth have left a lasting legacy. His leadership has helped CSH Surrey become a model for how a social enterprise can deliver community services. His tireless work in leading the delivery of the mass vaccination programme for Surrey is a particular highlight of his work at CSH Surrey.”

Andy Field concluded: “As we begin the process of appointing a permanent successor, CSH Surrey remains firmly committed to its founding principles — providing first-class NHS services to the community. We thank Steve for everything he’s done and we look forward to building on his legacy.”
