We are delighted to announce that Dr Subo Shanmuganathan has been appointed as the chair designate of CSH and she will take up her role at the beginning of April 2026.
Dr Subo Shanmuganathan is an experienced leader with a 25‑year career across health, education, regulation and the charitable sector. She completed her PhD in Clinical Immunovirology at Imperial College London, and has since held senior executive roles focused on organisational development, strategic change and service transformation.
Subo is a non‑executive director at South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, a non‑executive board member at the Crown Prosecution Service, and chair at Bromley Healthcare, a not‑for‑profit provider of NHS community health services similar to CSH Surrey.
Alongside these roles, Subo has been a trustee in international development and education, is a senior leadership coach and mentor, and has been a fellow of Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy) for more than 23 years.
A message from our CEO, Renée Padfield
“I’m thrilled to welcome Subo to CSH. Her dedication to improving care, her collaborative leadership style and her focus on people - both colleagues and communities - align perfectly with who we are as an organisation. “Subo’s experience across the health and care system will be invaluable as we continue strengthening our partnerships and delivering excellent, person‑centred services. I look forward to working closely with her as we build on the foundations already in place. “I would also like to take a moment to recognise and thank Andy Field, who has served as chair of CSH since 2019. Andy’s steady leadership, commitment to our values and genuine support for our people have shaped much of who we are today. We are deeply grateful for his contribution and wish him every success for the future.”

A message from our outgoing chair, Andy Field, who has served in this role at CSH since 2019.
“I’m delighted to be handing over to such an outstanding individual. Subo brings a wealth of experience and influence, and I’m confident she will be central to CSH’s success going forward. “It has been a real privilege for me to serve as the chair of CSH, and I know that the organisation will continue to thrive and develop under Subo’s leadership as CSH plays a lead role in making the left shift required in the NHS ten year plan a reality.”
