CSH Surrey are delighted to announce Jane Dale as our new clinical non-executive director.
Jane has an extensive and diverse background in the NHS, after joining in 1982 as a student nurse. Since 2020, she has been a non-executive director at Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust. In this role she has chaired the quality committee, the people committee, acted as deputy chair and from 2022 onwards, been its senior independent director.
After qualifying as a registered general nurse and then a midwife, Jane worked as a ward manager, practice nurse, community team leader, and nurse trainer, before moving into management as a clinical governance manager for a primary care and community provider and commissioner. Her career progressed further as she became director of clinical care, responsible for pharmacy, primary care and community services in south-east Wales.
Whilst working, Jane gained her degree from Cardiff University and post-graduate master’s in healthcare management. In 2009, she joined the integrated Welsh Health Board, where she was responsible for overseeing the improvement of quality and safety of services. She chaired national groups, focussing on the duty of candour and improving outcomes in response to patient experiences.
Jane’s most recent executive post was National Clinical Director for the Healthcare Inspectorate, Wales. This covered inspection, assurance and improvement across all health service providers in Wales; both NHS and private healthcare including primary, community and private hospitals.
Ahead of her new role at CSH Surrey, Jane says:
‘Looking back at my nursing career, I always put patient care first. Following over 40 years in a variety of clinical and executive roles, I am excited to support CSH Surrey’s frontline and enabling teams, who share these values.
‘In my mid-20s, I was asked to cover the ward-sister role at a community hospital in Chepstow, south-east Wales. I was inspired by the compassion and professionalism of the hospital matron, Daisy. Her emphasis on holistic care, not just the person but also the environment of care, the treatment delivered and the involvement of friends and family has remained with me to this day. Daisy was a true patient advocate, committed to providing comfortable and infection-free clinical areas.’
