About this service

Access to the podiatry service is determined by a combination of the foot problem and the extent to which any medical conditions (e.g. diabetes) put the foot at risk of serious complications, such as developing a foot wound or losing a limb.

Who is it for?

The podiatry service is available for adults and children to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of health problems that affect the feet and lower limbs.

Referrals accepted into the service are likely to include people who have diabetes, weakened immunity, peripheral vascular disease, peripheral neuropathy or severe foot deformity.

Please note that the podiatry service has exclusions and currently does not accept referrals from individuals who:

  • Do not have a medical condition that deems them to be ‘High Risk’
  • Do not have a foot health problem
  • General nail care including fungal and thick nails
  • Corns and/or callus with no associated risk factors.
  • Have problems that are caused or aggravated by inappropriate footwear
  • Have verrucae/plantar warts
  • Low foot risk people with diabetes who have no foot pathology

Who will I see?

The podiatry team comprises of health and care professions council registered podiatrists and a podiatry technician all of whom are committed to providing a high quality service.

Specialist areas of treatment include nail surgery, musculo-skeletal conditions and diabetes/wound care.

Where is this service provided?

Podiatry clinics are based in community health centres, clinics and hospitals in the North West Surrey area.

The Podiatry Service operates from:

  • Addlestone Health Centre
  • Ashford Hospital
  • Chertsey Health Centre
  • Goldsworth Park Health Centre
  • St. Peter's Hospital
  • Staines Health Centre
  • Woking Community Hospital
  • Walton Community Hospital

A very limited home visiting service is available as podiatry is predominantly a clinic based service. Home visits are for patients who are genuinely housebound due to significant mobility issues, are confined to bed, or where travel to a clinic poses a direct risk to their health.

Each patient is assessed on an individual basis.  We encourage patients to attend clinic, where able, using volunteer transport, hospital transport, friends or relatives, taxi or other modes of transport as remaining active, mobile and keeping independent is hugely important as we age, as well as it being mentally and physically beneficial.

Clinics are equipped with specialist equipment for diagnosis and treatment. There is comfortable adjustable seating. There is a lesser risk of cross contamination in a clinical environment although rigorous infection control practices are undertaken when visiting a patient at home.
